Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary | When To Visit? | Why To Visit? | Things To Do

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary stretches over an area of 208 square kilometers. It is located near the town of Valpoi in Goa. Also, it is a Project Tiger Reserve due to the existence of Bengal tigers. Furthermore, it gained prominence due to it boasts the plentiful waterfalls. One of the most notable and famous waterfalls is twin Vazra Sakla Waterfalls. Vazra Sakla Waterfalls contains the average fall of about 143 m. The tourists would certainly be spellbound with the scenic beauty of the waterfall. Moreover, they can witness the endangered long billed Vultures that hardly seen anywhere in the world.

The ideal time to visit this sanctuary is from October to March. During this time of the year, the weather is pleasant. The nearby prominent wildlife sanctuaries include Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary, Mollem National Park, and Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary. 

Fauna, Flora, and Avifauna At Madei Wildlife Sanctuary

The sanctuary is rich in biodiversity. It is a paradise for animal lovers, bird lovers, and shutterbugs. Take a quick look at the popular Fauna, Flora, and Avifauna which resides in the sanctuary.

Fauna:

The sanctuary contains the rich assortment of animals including wild boar, sambar deer, barking deer, sloth bear, black panther, Indian gaur, leopard, Asian palm civet, ruddy mongoose, jungle cat, dhole, small Indian civet, Indian hare, giant squirrel and much more. Apart from the wildlife species, it is also an abode of endemic species of amphibians like endangered marbled ramanella and Maharashtra bush frog. And the 257 species of butterflies are taking shelter in the sanctuary.

Avifauna:

The sanctuary is a habitat for 255 bird species. The tourists can enchant the sighting of a vivid collection of birds. Some of the famous birds that can be easily spotted here are Nilgiri wood-pigeon, Malabar grey hornbill, Malabar parakeet, Rufous Babbler, White-bellied blue flycatcher and crimson backed sunbird.

Flora: 

Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in vegetation. Thousands of flowering plants and orchids enhance the beauty of the sanctuary.
