Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the worth visited sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh. The sanctuary not only rich in biodiversity but also in a serene ambience. The sanctuary spreads over an area of 452 sq km. And is located in Shravasti, Balrampur, and Gonda districts of Uttarpradesh. Also, it is connected with the forest of Mahadevpuri in Nepal. It is declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1988. Moreover, it is recognized as a tiger reserve. The rest of the tiger reserves in Uttarpradesh include Pilibhit Wildlife Sanctuary, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, and Amangarh Tiger Reserve. We all knew that whole world had taken the initiative to protect the endangered species like Tigers. India boasts the 70% of tiger population of the world. Uttar Pradesh possesses nearly about 118 tigers.

Some of the easily spotted fauna in the sanctuary include Leopard, Bear, Wolf,  Sambhar, Spotted Deer, Hyena, Jackal, Wild Boar, Neelgaya, Barking Deer and Monkeys.

The sanctuary birds abounding plant species which also includes medicinal plants. The chief plant species in the sanctuary are Sal, Asna, Khair and, Teak. While the rest of the famous plant species are Black Sheesham, Zigna, Harra, Jamun, Haldu, Faldu, Bahera, and Rohani. The famous medicinal plant species such as White Musuli, Black Musuli, Piper longum, Adhatoda Vasica, Tinospora Cardifolia, Swertia Chirayita, Holarrhoena Antidysentrica, Acorus calamus, Lantana Camara, Nyctanthes Arbortristic, Withania Somnifera, Rauvolfia Serpentina, Murraya Koenigii, Asparagus Racemosus, Acacia Concinna.

Birding of wide array of birds such as Grebe, Indian Cormorant, Little Cormorant, Darter, Indian Pond Heron, Cattle-egret, Great-egret, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Little-egret, Common Teal, Spot-Billed Duck, Greater Spotted Eagle, Long-Billed Vulture, White Rumped Vulture, Painted Star, Asian Openbill, Black-headed Ibis, Eurasian Spoonbill, Grey leg goose, Bar-Headed Goose and more makes you feel elated.

The ideal time to visit Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary is from November to June.

The Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary can be accessed by using various modes of transport facilities such as airways, railways and, roadways.

By Air:

The nearest airport is Amausi Airport of Lucknow, which is about 269 km from the sanctuary.

By Rail:

The nearest railway station is at Balrampur which is about 60 km from the sanctuary.

By Road:

Tourists can avail the taxies to reach their destination.
